the return of the black watch

When the first wave of the pandemic arrived in Montreal and the unimaginable happened, soldiers from the Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment of Canada came to the rescue, joined by their friends from CFB Petawawa. During the most difficult of circumstances, they worked side by side with St. Andrews staff and new friendships were formed. Both residents and soldiers left each other with lasting impressions and a promise was made. The Black Watch promised a return visit “when things were better.” After many months, that visit became a reality and the staff and residents of St. Andrew’s were delighted with a visit from the Black Watch pipes and drums. As we gathered outside, they marched in playing reels, jigs, and of course Amazing Grace. They were joined by a highland dancer much to the delight of all. Elaine Grant (recreation, St. Andrews) presented the pipe major with a trophy on behalf of the residents, thanking them for their service. A special thank you to the Honorary Colonel of the Black Watch and President of the Foundation Bruce Bolton and his wife Roberta for for joining us. Roberta is a regular volunteer and friend at St. Andrews and so it was lovely to be joined by them both on this special occasion.
