Welcome to our garden
With summer upon us it is time to enjoy the outdoors and nice weather. While many of us are enjoying our home gardens or local parks, residents and staff at St. Andrew’s Residential Centre are getting out on the patio and taking in some fresh air. This year, we decided to spruce up the garden area and have also added several planters for the residents to get their green thumbs busy!
As with many great projects, this is a community effort and we have many people to thank.
Mr. & Mrs. Frank & Marjorie McGravie (residents at St. Andrews) made a donation to help fund the purchase of some of our plants. Frank and Marjorie call St. Andrews home and wanted to contribute to the outdoor space for all to enjoy. Thank you!
The garden centre at Provigo Marché Kirkland generously donated some vegetable plants and gave us a discount on our assortment of herbs. They were extremely helpful and their plant selection and quality were top notch. If you live in the West Island, visit them next year when planning your garden - you will not be disappointed. Thank you!
Mr. Stewart Blott and Mr. John Silvius are two local volunteers who generously agreed to help weed and trim the existing perennial garden. Their garden-know-how and community spirit will breathe new life into the garden and make it enjoyable for summers to come. Thank you!
The residents and Elaine Grant (recreation technician) who are lovingly tending to the vegetables and embarking on this new gardening adventure. Thanks to Elaine who always supports the residents with all of their interests and to the residents for their enthusiasm.
The Foundation (and especially Tracy, the executive director, who is an avid gardener herself!) was happy to contribute to this project. We purchased planters and a vegetable trough, a sprinkling bird bath and more!
Aside from many beautiful flowers, the residents are also growing several varieties of tomatoes, peppers, bok choi, strawberries, lettuce, basil, rosemary, oregano, chives and thyme. What are you growing in your garden this year?
Come take a mini virtual garden tour and see what we are growing at St. Andrews with a little help from our friends.
